Grow Lights for Indoor Plants, Sized for Real Homes

Most grow lights for indoor plants are either weak desk lamps or overkill fixtures built for big tents. The MA120 sits in the useful middle: 120W of full-spectrum output at a stated 2.7 μmol/J – real growing power for a closet corner, a balcony cabinet or a 60x60cm tent, without lighting up your electricity bill.

  1. Genuinely full spectrum. Warm and cool whites plus 660nm red – your basil, chillies and seedlings get proper light, not the purple glow of novelty panels.
  2. Dim it to the plant. 40% for seedlings, 100% for fruiting chillies – one dial covers everything you will grow in a small space.
  3. Silent and cool. Passive aluminium cooling means no fan noise in the living space where small grows usually live.
  4. Grows with you. Daisy-chain a second MA120 later, or step up the MA series as your setup gets serious.

Are these good grow lights for indoor plants like herbs and seedlings?

Exactly what the MA120 was designed for – dimmed down it starts seedlings gently, at full power it carries herbs, greens and compact fruiting plants through the whole cycle.

What does it cost to run?

0.12kWh per hour – an 18-hour day costs roughly R6-R8 at typical municipal rates (see Eskom's tariff page). Cheap enough to run year-round.

Can grow lights for indoor plants really flower fruiting crops?

Good ones can. The MA120 flowers compact plants in a 60x60cm footprint. For flowering a 90x90cm tent, step up to the MA200.

How far above plants should it hang?

40-60cm for seedlings at low power; 25-35cm at full power for mature compact plants.

Is it noisy or hot?

Neither – passive cooling, no fans, and at 120W the heat load is minimal even in a small closet.

Does load shedding affect it?

The driver tolerates cuts fine. A battery-backup timer keeps your light schedule stable through outages.
